Barthélemy d'Eyck werkte van 1447 tot 1470 voor René van Anjou, graaf van Provence en koning van Napels. Hij was zijn kamerheer vanaf 1449 en vergezelde hem op zijn reizen. Omdat geschreven is dat zijn broer Clément afkomstig is uit het bisdom Luik, zou ook Barthélemy van oorsprong uit het Maasgebied kunnen zijn gekomen.
