Rodin was unprecedented in his expression of the human body. 'Pierre de Wissant' is a larger than life size study for one of the figures from the famous work 'The Burghers of Calais', of which the original version still stands in Calais. It is a monument to those who ended the mediaeval siege of the city by the English.
