More information

Sisley painted this water mill at Moret sur Loing to the south east of Paris where the Seine meets the Loing. In order to capture the fleeing light effects in the sky and on the water, the Impressionist painted this subject in situ in the open air. The flecks of paint suggest reflections in the water. The women washing clothes on the bank are rendered as little more than accents of colour.
