This coastline near Marseille appears to have been painted in a single gesture. Details such as waves, grass, clouds and a few people are rendered sketchily. The Dutch painter Jongkind worked mainly in France and was one of the pioneers of Impressionism. His atmospheric paintings were a source of inspiration for Claude Monet.
