Fouace was a multifaceted painter. He made landscapes, portraits, biblical scenes and amusing figure paintings, but his still lifes are considered his best works. Many of them are sober with only a few objects emerging from the half darkness: a cut-open pie on a plate or a piece of blue cheese and a bottle of wine. And beautifully painted, with the brush and liberal use of the palette knife.
