Ask anything

  • Tara West asked

I have a statue made by him near enough the same as this. The one i have is made of Spelter or Pewter.
The lady is pointing to the sky but in her left hand she has a small basket. The arm broke recently which
has been soft soldered on. It also has his signature which we have compared.
Do you have a title for this piece and an idea of value?
Its been in my family for over 100 years

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

    Hello Tara,
That sounds like a wonderful heirloom. In our systems, this work by Hottot is labeled as 'sculpture' without a more specific title, but there hasn't been much research into this particular piece. We can't provide any information about the value of this sculpture or a similar works, as it depends on factors like the condition and the current market value. You could approach an auction house for an appraisal or compare it to similar works which have been sold to get an indication of its value.
    Kind regards,
    Manus
