The butterfly chair is the result of a collaboration between three Argentinian architects, Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, Juan Kurchan and Antonio Bonet, for the Edificio Charcas building in Buenos Aires. An ingenious construction, in which two bent steel bars were fitted together, created a frame over which a butterfly leather cover can be fitted. A later version used the cheaper but extremely strong canvas. This chair, produced at the time by Knoll, was very popular in the 1950s.
