Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. In 1849 the lawyer Boijmans left his art collection to the city of Rotterdam. With the acquisition of the Van Beuningen collection in 1958 the museum got the second part of its name. The museum houses a unique collection of paintings, sculptures and everyday objects. The collection of prints and drawings is one of the best in the world. The museum also organises a diverse programme of spectacular temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is due for a major renovation. Thankfully, Rotterdam’s politicians and press have been aware of this for some time. The museums aspires to raise its international profile further, building on Rotterdam’s modern tradition and mentality.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is a multifaceted museum in the heart of the Netherland’s harbour city, Rotterdam. It is the only museum in the Netherlands that offers the visitor a comprehensive survey of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present day.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s collection is world class. The museum holds around 150,000 objects – from Old Masters to modern and contemporary art, from applied art to design.

Welcome to the page of the Boijmans Children’s Advisory Board. For a period of at least four years, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has created a Children’s Advisory Board that will contribute to discussion about the museum’s policy, programming and identity. As part of its ambition to increase its young audience and in a period in which the construction of the Depot will bring about great changes, the museum is giving a voice to an important section of Rotterdam’s population: primary-school children. The first Children’s Advisory Board was formed on 1 September 2016 and its members are now passing on the baton to the second board. Each Children’s Advisory Board will work with us for a single school year.
