Ask anything

  • Luisa Penalva asked

    Hi
Do you have any idea what the crowned M stands for?
    Thank you

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

    Dear Luisa,
This type of insignias were produced on a large scale, and indicated the first letter of the holy site/ pilgrimage the buyers had embarked upon. It remains uncertain however which exact place is signified with this M.
    Best regards,
    Frederieke
