A satyr sits on a rock with a tambourine filled with grapes and a set of panpipes. A naked Maenad - a follower of Bacchus - leans against him holding the hand of a young satyr. This satyr family is typical of the work of the 18th-century French sculptor Claude Michel, known as Clodion. Under the influence of his friend Piranesi, Clodion became fascinated with classical antiquity.
