Ask anything

  • Erica asked

    Hello,
I'd like to clarify if this artwork was acquired through a donation from the Municipality of Rotterdam and if there was any particular reason for its acquisition. Separately, was this work ever exhibited prior to 2012? It just seems like such a long gap between 1978 and 2012.

    Many thanks,
    Erica

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Hi Erica, thank you for your question. The work was not donated by the Municipality, but lend since 1978. They still own it. It was acquired because Woody van Amen is an important Dutch artist, one of the first here to discover and apply pop art principles. In this way he, as it were, re-introduced surrealist practice (like assemblage). This piece has been exhibited in 1991, 2003, 2005, 2012, 2013-14, 2017 - and it might be again in Rome in 2022. I hope this answers your questions sufficiently. Kind regards, Els
