More information

In all probability, this is a relatively early painting by Chardin. It can, on stylistic grounds, be dated around 1726-1728. The objects in this 'Still life with fruits and pottery flask', such as the jug, nuts and fruit, are also found in the early paintings by the master. The fruits and objects, in fairly tempered colours, are gathered together in an apparently little organised
composition. The way in which the jug and lid and the pear are painted completely on the left shows the considerable capabilities of the young Chardin.
