Dennis Oppenheim

Electric City 1938 - New York 2011

Conceptual artist and performer Dennis Oppenheim studied in California and now lives in New York. His early work consisted of large-scale Land Art projects that were documented using photography. For example, in Finsterwolde (Groningen, NL) he had a large cross shaped mowed in a field of ripe corn. In the early 1970s he lay for hours in the sun with a book on his bare back, with a clear result entitled: 'Reading position for second degree burn'. Many of his performances have been shot on video.
