More information

'Identity Stretch' consists of a large photo collage of seven coloured photographs, one black and white reproduction of a map and printed text from 1970-1975. With this, Oppenheim documents a project that was executed in 1975 in the Lewiston Art Park in New York, but that had already been conceived in 1970. The artist and his son Erik transferred their thumb prints to rubber tape. This tape was then stretched to its maximum and the prints were copied on a raster. The raster was then enlarged and the shapes were transferred to a field, where a spray cart traced them with tar.
The photo montage 'Identity Stretch' is very representative for the way in which Dennis Oppenheim makes use of his body and nature as both subject and medium in his art.
