Ask anything

  • Bram asked

Will it ever be for sale?

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

    Hi Bram,

Being this a museum, our role is to take care, research and share with everyone the scientific knowledge about art. The art market is not among our interests and we prefer to focus on making art accessible at all times to fulfill the role of custodians and mediators of artworks in order for anyone to be able to enjoy them. There are artworks that are what is called 'deaccessioned' but I doubt this will be one of them since it is currently in the 'Beloved' exhibition at the Depot.

    Best,
    Lisa

  • Maria Jesus asked

Qué quería decir Penck con esos símbolos?

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Dear Maria, I am very sorry but I cannot speak or write in Spanish. Penck uses very general signs and symbols for us humans and the culture we are living in. Maybe you can find an essay or a book about Penck in which his sign-language is analyzed. Still, you own personal interpretation might be very valid too. In art there hardly are any fixed meanings and the meaning of art changes over time and generations. Kind regards, Els
