Design

Design for the renovation and modernisation

How can architecture enhance our experience of works of art? This question has been the common thread throughout Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s long history. Following a period of intensive discussions between the museum, the Municipality of Rotterdam and the architecture firm Mecanoo, it is now up to Francine Houben and her team to make a preliminary plan to renovate, restore and ensure the sustainability of the existing building and the associated outdoor spaces. The brief is therefore not to design an entirely new building, but to realise a high-quality restoration and renovation of the museum complex. The basic principle here is to honour the building’s status as a historic monument.

Help us to build the new Boijmans

We are not making the big leap to the museum of the future alone. We want to involve everyone who cares about Boijmans. The municipality is ensuring that the basic building elements are in good shape again. But we need your help to take the first real step towards the new Boijmans.
