This is the only painting by Titian in a Dutch collection. The Venetian master painted this picture when he was already between eighty and ninety years old. The broad brushstrokes on coarse linen are characteristic of his late style. The meaning of the image remains unclear.
Laura Palombaro asked
To whom may concern?
Can I have more information about Boy with Dogs in a Landscape of Tiziano Vecellio? In particular, When the painting entered in the Museum of Boijmans's collection?
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered
Dear Laura, of course. This painting was acquired with the collection of D.G. Van Beuningen in 1958. The purchase of his collection was so important that the name of the museum then changed to 'Boijmans Van Beuningen'. You can find a lot more information about this online. Best, Lisa
