The British Pop artist Allen Jones moved to the United States in the 1960s. There he developed a graphic painting style with bright colours. The female body became his subject; the black stiletto the symbol for sexuality, inspired by fetish magazines. Jones contrasted the two-dimensional character of his painted women with the emotions and sensations that they evoke. Here partially three-dimensional steps invite the viewer to climb into the painting.
