Yves Tanguy

Yves Tanguy was a self-taught artist who came into contact with André Breton and other surrealist artists in 1925 in Paris. Tanguy quickly developed his own way of painting. He had a highly refined painting style, like Dalí, but produced abstract landscapes populated by abstract organisms. His landscapes were often threatening and, according to him, arose from his subconscious and memories of his childhood. In 1938, Tanguy married the American Kay Sage and emigrated to the United States. It was there that Tanguy enjoyed his most successful and productive period.
