RASL Summer Studio 2023 - [EARLY BIRD]

RASL announces its third annual Summer Studio - Supporting Structures: Re-Imagining Ways to Wellbeing through the Arts and Sciences. This year's transdisciplinary workshop is hosted in collaboration with Zuid. Boijmans Van Beuningen. We will explore and develop how working at the intersection of arts, sciences, education, and social and community practice can provide supporting structures that promote wellbeing. Arte Útil joins us in this exploration, and the process and results will be shared at Dutch Design Week 2023.

RASL Summer Studio?

RASL Summer Studio welcomes artists, academics, scientists, designers, societal partners and creative minds to explore new research methods and develop collaborative practices that cross the boundaries between the arts and sciences. We immerse ourselves in practice-led workshops, field research, feedback sessions, excursions, collective dreaming, sharing and making.

Hillevliet 90

Both RASL and Zuid. Boijmans Van Beuningen are located at Hillevliet 90 in a former technical school. This is a shared space where many other institutions, organisations and artists are based as well. This building will be the point of departure for the Summer Studio where participants work in groups and are asked to respond to a brief designed by social partners who work in this building and whose practices intersect with topics of well-being, care and mental health.

Process

The groups will be introduced to the initiative Arte Útil, who will work and do research on the intersection of arts and social practice in the months before the summer studio starts. At the end of the ten-day session, participants will present their concepts, research, practices, and prototypes to the societal partners and mentors. One of the projects will be selected, tested, fine-tuned and presented at Dutch Design Week 2023.

Participants will be mentored by guest artists Arte Útil, RASL faculty members and the staff of Zuid. Boijmans Van Beuningen; Dr Robin van den Akker (Erasmus University), Arlon Luijten (Codarts), Dr Vivian Sky Rehberg (WdKA), Dr Lisa Heinis (Boijmans) and Birgit van Beek (Boijmans). The two social partners of this studio are: SOL (welfare institution) and the Feyenoord Stadsmarinier (social cohesion).
