In the summer of 2014 Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen was showing ten early works by Willem Oorebeek (Pernis 1953) from the museum’s own collection. The artist’s work is based on commercial printing. He combines, isolates and repeats images from the endless stream generated by the mass media. This gives them a status in their own right, whereas in a commercial environment they are subservient to the product.
Oorebeek’s works was combined with other work in the museum’s collection by such artists as Marcel Duchamp and Gerhard Richter. These works of art resonated with Oorebeek’s oeuvre at different levels.
Recent Acquisition for the City of Rotterdam
Oorebeek made the artwork ‘The Individual Parallel – Bilderberg Utopia’ for the Bilderberg Park Hotel in 2014. The work is a grid of white dots on the hotel’s grey facade.
