Three Eyes - Five Young Chinese Designers

In 2016 the Han Nefkens Foundation commissioned five young Chinese designers to make new works for this exhibition, shown at the OCT Art & Design Gallery in Shenzhen, as a supplement to the travelling exhibition ‘The Future of Fashion is Now’.

At the end of 2016 the well-known Chinese designers Zha Dang, Dooling Jiang and ZucZug drew up a list of current talented Chinese fashion stylists. Initiator Han Nefkens, guest curator José Teunissen and Feng Feng, the artistic director of the OCT Art and Design Gallery in Shenzhen, selected the designers of the new works from a shortlist. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, in collaboration with Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge, showed these new Chinese works in Rotterdam from October 2016 onwards. This special joint venture has provided a platform for innovative fashion designers for several years now, creating an opportunity for talented national and international fashion designers to show their work to a wide public.

The five designers Dido LiuFang YeFFIXXED STUDIOSPercy Lau and ZAZ share the belief that tradition and the future must go hand in hand. According to Chinese culture, a designer needs three eyes: two to look to the future and one to look back on five thousand years of Chinese culture.

The exhibition was accompanied by a publication, designed by Glamcult Studio and published by the Han Nefkens Foundation.

On 30 September 2016 the Profiel Prize was be awarded by José Teunissen.
