An idiosyncratic selection by Belgian artist and guest curator Erich Weiss, who combines masterpieces from the museum’s collection, including works by Man Ray, Duchamp and Picabia, with pieces by lesser-known figures from the Surrealist movement.
However, this exhibition went one step further. Like a Surrealist ‘salon’, it created a dialogue between contemporary artists and the avant-garde predecessors who have inspired them, leading to an exciting confrontation. After all, as André Breton predicted: ‘Beauty will be convulsive or it will not exist at all’.
