Iranian artist Shirana Shahbazi (1974) arranges and stages still lifes, modelled partly on works by the Old Masters. She photographs the still lifes and translates them into paintings or installations.
One of the items in this first exhibition in the refurbished entrance area of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is modelled on a work from the museum’s collection, which Shahbazi took as an example, copied, photographed in black and white and then reworked into a painting by a commercial artist, with an alienating result.
