Support the depot

Today, we are breaking new ground by building the world’s first and only public depot that will make an entire collection accessible to the public and safe for future generations. In 2020, the new 40 metre high Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen building will open right next to the museum. The urgent responsibility to safeguard the collection from unsafe depots, gives us the unique opportunity to create something entirely novel, in true Rotterdam spirit.

€9 million (75%) already raised

The Boijmans Van Beuningen Depot is financed through a mix of public and private funds. The costs for the building itself are already covered, thanks to a generous donation from De Verre Bergen Foundation. Our focus is now on creating a unique visitor experience, for which we need to raise €12 million in private donations. These monies will pay for a roof terrace, state-of-the-art interpretation systems, and an atrium with floating glass vitrine filled with art: a dazzling experience for every visitor. Nine million euros, or 75 per cent, has already been raised. To realise our plans for fitting out the building, we need to raise €3 million. This sum will enable us to create, among other things, four restoration studios, a film theatre and the roof terrace with seventy-five birch trees. We are also attempting to raise an additional €5 million for the endowment, which will support the care of the collection, educational programmes and new acquisitions.

Join us in co-creating the future

With your support, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen will be much more than an iconic building that stores wonderful collections. We can make it a transformative experience – a mirror to our souls.

Become a Founding Pioneer

During this exciting period of creating the first-ever public depot, you have the opportunity for your campaign support to be memorialized in a lasting way. Donors who pledge $50,000 or more will be honored as Founding Pioneers, with long-term recognition in a special area of the lobby.

Name a Space in Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen

The depot facility boasts high-visibility, high-use spaces that bring unique opportunities for long-term donor recognition through naming. Capital naming opportunities begin at $75,000.

Make an Endowed Gift

Endowed funds are among the most lasting contributions, as they create a meaningful annual income stream that benefits our institution in perpetuity. You can choose to designate your fund for a specific purpose, such as collection care, education or art purchases, as agreed between you and the museum.

If you don’t live in the NL, but wish to give to the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and save you taxes, you might be able to do so. If you are a corporation or foundation, you might want to directly give to the Museum in the Netherlands. We are here to help you!
