More information

This drawing and its ‘other half’ - which is roughly the same size, was also part of the Koenigs Collection and is now in Moscow - depict the stern and the bow of the mail boat respectively. The entire composition can be seen in the painting by Tiepolo in Vienna (Kunsthistorisches Museum). The Burchiello sailed on the Brenta, a river between Venice and Padua, and also carried passengers.
