Christ Crucified between the Two Thieves: An Oval Plate

Copy after: Rembrandt van Rijn (in circa 1641 - 1750)

Ask anything

  • Lewis Royer asked

The etching is a mirrored version of the typical ones you see. Would this be a counterproof?

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Hi Lewis, In the process of printing the image is always shown mirrored from the way it was drawn on the copper plate. In this case the text on the etching is not mirrored, which means that the image is intended this way. Kind regards, Els
