More information

De Witte would paint such illustrations of fish markets alongside his church interiors until the 1680s. Six such paintings from his hand have been found until now. The foreground shows a fish still life. The fishmonger is standing behind the table, and she is talking to an elegantly dressed lady. A man with a hat in his hand also tries to attract her attention. The tower in the background has, until now, eluded identification.
