Entry catalogue Italian Drawings 1400-1600

This is a folio from a hypothetical lost drawing book, a remnant of which is now part of an eighteenth-century album called the Gozzoli Album, held in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. For a general description, see here.

This page was originally folio 33 verso in the hypothetical lost volume (now also a verso in the album).

The mourning figure with his right hand held to his cheek is probably related to a St John the Baptist in a Crucifixion. Much the same figure appears in a drawing, also from the Gozzoli workshop, now in Berlin.[1]
