Michelangelo Cerquozzi mainly worked in Rome, the city where he was born. He often painted Bambocciate, in which peasant scenes were featured. Cerquozzi was a member of the Academia di Santa Luca from 1634 onwards and regularly attended meetings of the members of the academy. His contacts with Dutch and Flemish painters who worked in Rome had enormous influence on his artistic development.
