Yang Fudong is a painter who studied at the China Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou. Fudong began working with film and video towards the end of the 'nineties. In his films, Fudong mixes Chinese tradition with influences from western film and video culture. Emptiness plays an important role, frequently illustrated by desolate environments and meditative silences.
