Karel Appel belonged to the important post war group CoBrA. Prior to that he was a member of the Nederlandse Experimentele Groep, which was characterised by feverish experimentation, vitality and spontaneity. This installation is just such an unconventional experiment, a picture painted on an old stable door with a real bucket attached.
