More information

This statue is a fragment of a Calvary group, a group of statues depicting the crucifixion of Christ on Golgotha between the crucified criminals and the other people present at the crucifixion. These include, in addition to Mary and John, Mary Magdalene, the onlookers and the Roman soldiers. Here we see John the Evangelist, who looks up at the cross (which has not been preserved), while he supports Mary who has fainted. One of the other women who stood under the cross can be seen to the left.
