It would be unfair to deny Vroom’s colleagues an element of poetry in their grey landscapes, but Vroom went further and did it differently. A glade in a wood was all he needed, and he loved green. He worked in Haarlem, like many of the best artists of his day. Jacob van Ruisdael must have learned a lot from him.
