    I am a French PhD candidate preparing a conference on the predella by Neri di Bicci. Here are my questions :
    Is the Neri di Bicci predella showing the Fall the the Rebel Angels in Rotterdam earlier than the very similar predella by Neri di Bicci in the Museum of National Art of Catalogne in Barcelona ? Do we have any informations about who commissionned the Rotterdam predella and when ?

    Dear Angèle, I'm afraid we don't know the answer to either of your questions. We don't know anything about a commissioner and whether our predella was made before or after the one in Barcelona is also not known. What we know about the painting you can find in: Italian paintings 1300-1500, Rotterdam, Museum Boymans -van Beuningen 1993, nr. 21. Best, Friso Lammertse

The Archangel Michael is ridding Heaven of the rebel angels and vanquishing his opponent Satan, who has taken on the form of a dragon. This kind of narrative scene is typical of the small paintings found below the depiction of a saint in a polyptych. The altarpiece to which this panel belonged is no longer known.
