This composition by Jacoba van Heemskerck shows a tree in a forest. In this period, Van Heemskerck was influenced by the new trends in art. The artist was particularly interested in the visual language of cubism and was attracted by the ideas and form world of the expressionist artist group Der Blaue Reiter. Based on stylistic considerations, this work is dated around 1913.
