hello im from brazil, and im making a school project about frans post, i want to know if this painting is phisically in your museum, thank you!

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Dear Alinne, Thank you for your interest in this painting. At the moment Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is closed for renovation, so the artworks are either exhibited in other museums, or – as in the case of this painting by Post – in depot. The museum will not reopen until 2026, but in September 2021, Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen will open its doors. In this depot the whole collection is kept. This depot is accessible. Good luck with your school project! Els

  • Christopher Sellars asked

Hello, I live on the Island of Itamaracá in Brazil, in the very village that featured in Post's first painting upon arriving in Brazil. Although I was aware of this obra, I had no idea of it's size... it really is a most strange work, like nothing else from Post. My reason ror tracking it's whereabouts to your collection is that Estanislau Fishlowitz, in his book about Cristof Arciszewski asserts the the setting is in Itamaracá...unfortunately the reproduction in the book is naturally very small and of quite horrible quality ! So, my question is, as the curators of the painting do you have any more detailed information about it and is it possible to see/obtain an image of a reasonable resolution ? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks..... Chris........ PS: recently I identified Post's Brazilian Landscape in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY....by comparing Vingboon's works with cartography of the period. googling "Brazilian Landscape Identified" you will find my short article on Academia.edu

Dear Christopher, sorry it took some time for us to get back to you. For images I have to refer you to images@boijmans.nl. As for further information, we have checked and we can't find any further research regarding the background of this painting and what is depicted exactly. Sorry we can't be of much help, but hopefully your research will shed more light on the issue! Best, Rianne
