More information

This painting is a wonderful example of the landscapes of Philips Koninck. They were probably inspired by the river areas of the Waal and the Rhine, but the location cannot be precisely identified. Undoubtedly, the paintings took shape in the studio based on the memories the painter had of the region. Nature is so predominantly present in Koninck's paintings that the insignificance and the mortality of man seems to be the real theme.
