Tobit and Anna

Ask anything

  • Katerina Papanastasiou asked

    Good afternoon sirs,
I'm working my master degree on lighting design in the university of Athens.
My research for this week is on the painting of Rembrandt van Rijn "Tobit and Anna" . I need please information that concerns the way the painter used the light and the obscure. Anything about chiaroscuro for this painting would be very important for my research. Also anything about the forms and the way he drew this painting. The lines and the forms on which he was based on as also the meaning of the painting , the feelings he wanted to provoke.
It is very precious for my work your help and your information.
I would be very obligated and would appreciate any information from your part.
    Thank you in advance

    Kind Regards
    Katerina Papanastasiou

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

    Dear Katerina,
The notable feature of this painting is the combination of daylight with the glow of a fire, which is an effect that other artists also toyed with at the time. But besides that, we invite you to have a look at some relevant literature for yourself, so that you get the most out of your assignment. Best, Lisa and Rianne
