This
mythological scene shows the nymph Pomona in conversation with Vertumnus. After
rejecting all her suitors, Vertumnus, disguised as an old woman, persuaded her
of his virtues. Long attributed to Rembrandt, the drawing is now assigned on
stylistic grounds to his pupil Ferdinand Bol, who depicted the same subject in
paintings from 1635 and 1644.
