This
drawing of a sleeping woman closely resembles Rembrandt’s 1635 studies of his
wife Saskia in bed. Because the woman here lies in a landscape, it was long
thought that Rembrandt drew the figure and that the landscape was added by
another hand. Today, the drawing is believed to be entirely by Ferdinand Bol,
who studied in Rembrandt’s studio between 1635 and 1640.
