More information

This imaginary landscape ('capriccio') is one of the most impressive drawings by Guardi in the Koenigs collection. The collector was greatly attracted to the proto-Impressionism of Guardi's drawing style. The drawing was probably intended as a work of art in its own right, made to be sold. However, it bears a strong resemblance to a painting by the artist. It may have been a design for the painting or could be a 'ricordo' (record) of it.
