In the foreground lies the woman who according to legend hid in the cave where Chrysostom lived. The hermit could not resist temptation. Afterwards he unsuccessfully attempted to kill the woman. As penance for his sin he lived like an animal in the wilderness. He is shown in the background on all fours.
