    Dear Udo Thomale,
    This lidded box is designed by Cris Agterberg, a Dutch applied art artist, but Hendrik Methorst is the one who manufactured this object. Cris Agterberg designed products in many different materials, but the tin objects were made by his colleague Hendrik Methorst in Zeist. The figure on top represents a monk. Agterberg often used those slightly vague, semi-symbolic decorative details. We are not sure where boxes like these were used for. The collaboration between Methorst and Agterberg ended shortly after 1924, because Methorst accused Agterberg of copying his ideas. I hope this answers your questions!
