If you want to visit the depot, book your ticket with a time slot online. If you are a friend or have a Museum Card, you can book a free ticket with a time slot. You can begin your visit within the time slot and stay as long as you want.
Book your ticketsFor the time being, the Renilde restaurant is open only for lunch and coffee from 10 am to 5 pm and after the 1 February from 11 am to 6 pm. The restaurant opens again for dinner from 2 February. Dinner reservations can be made from 28 January onwards.
We want a visit to the Depot to be as safe as possible for everyone, so we are following government guidelines. The following measures are now in place.
Corona pass and ID
Before visitors enter the building they will be asked to show a valid QR code and proof of identity to a member of the Depot staff. The e-tickets will be checked inside.
Face masks
Face masks must be worn in the Depot by everyone over the age of 13.
1.5 metres distance
We are doing everything possible to ensure that you can keep 1.5 metres away from other visitors during your visit to the Depot.
Stay home if you have any symptoms
Do you have any symptoms of the coronavirus or has a member of your household tested positive for corona? If so, stay at home, even if you have already been vaccinated. Guided tours
Guided tours are still taking place. There is no need to book, but the size of the group has been reduced. A maximum of six people may now join a guided tour.
Plan je bezoekDepot Boijmans Van Beuningen is the world's first publicly accessible museum storage facility. It offers you a glimpse behind the scenes of the museum world, revealing what is involved in maintaining and caring for a collection of more than 154,000 artworks. Because all the artworks are stored in view of the visitor, the Depot provides a backstage pass for art lovers.
The eye-catcher of MVRDV’s design is the atrium with crisscrossing staircases and thirteen large glass showcases containing objects from the collection. The showcases, designed in partnership with the artist Marieke van Diemen, contain art, fashion and design by Maurizio Cattelan, Suzan Drummen, Carel Fabritius, Iris van Herpen, Auguste Rodin, Sarkis, Carolein Smit and Gijs Frieling & Job Wouters.
The atrium stairs lead to the six floors with restoration studios, a film auditorium, two small film cabins, two study rooms and two exhibition spaces. Most of the space is taken up by the twenty storage compartments, fourteen for the museum’s own collection and six for rental.
In the restoration studios, you can watch from behind glass as staff undertake specialist restorations of works such as Vincent van Gogh’s ‘Poplars Near Nuenen’ or Yayoi Kusama’s ‘Infinity Mirror Room – Phalli’s Field (Floor Show)’. The galleries present changing exhibitions that focus on artworks as material objects rather than art-historical developments and ideas. In the storage compartments you can see the works in storage either through the window, via the depot app and in-depth information available in situ or via a guided tour of the storage compartment.
The video installation ‘Wasting Life on You’ by the Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist can be experienced every day after sunset in the public space between the Depot and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
