On Thin Ice

Ice as matter, material or metaphor? Ice on the river, or ice in the refrigerator? Art in nature, or art in culture? A melting glacier in an Alpine valley, or a melting icecube in a wineglass? And as for thin ice, does this suggest adventure, or threat?

27 November 2026 up to and including 25 April 2027

On Thin Ice encompasses all of these readings and more. The title refers to the common expression for any situation which risks the next step, taken however cautiously, which results in sudden disaster! Or, the phrase can be taken quite literally: what we are witnessing in our polar regions as the earth’s climate undergoes dramatic change.

On Thin Ice presents an ongoing exploration of the various ways in which artists – some of whom are also scientists -  approach the subject: whether they work with the real thing under extreme weather conditions, or deal with it conceptually from the comfortable warmth of a studio.

It is an expedition of its own, moving, still in search of its final form and inviting the visitors to join in the further exploration of this mysterious, enchanting realm. Here ‘On Thin Ice’ takes shape for the first time, bringing together 38 artists from all artistic media.

On Thin Ice is a collaboration by Moveo Art Collection and curator William A. Ewing.

This is an exhibition in progress and therefore it takes place in two parts.

Part 1: 27 November 2026 – 07 February 2027

Part 2: 18 February – 25 April 2027
