The presentation takes its title from Co Westerik’s artwork Starry Night. Ina was very fond of his work. The painting evokes the grandeur and vastness of the universe, in which humanity forms just a small part. It is a fitting title for a presentation that not only showcases exceptional acquisitions, but also commemorates Ina’s deep commitment to the collection and her lasting significance to the museum and the Depot.
The presentation also features the new acquisition Saint Francis and Brother Leo in Meditation, dating from around 1626, by the Flemish master Adam de Coster. The acquisition was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Rembrandt Association, including through its Dura Art Fund and Gisbert van Laack Fund, the Mondriaan Fund, and an anonymous donor. From 5 November, the recent acquisition IK by Jan van Munster can also be admired on the roof of the Depot.
