In this exhibition, you can observe a large-scale registration project: all objects from the fashion collection are carefully examined, placed on mannequins and photographed. Often, a photograph of the silhouettes is still missing, or existing photographs are incomplete. The work can be followed live and there is a photo studio in the exhibition space. Because new pieces are constantly being photographed, the presentation changes regularly, allowing you to discover different outfits every time you visit.
Photography is not the only important part of this registration process. Collection staff also examine the condition of the garments and how we can best preserve them. For example, how do you preserve a mechanical dress by Chalayan without a working mechanism? What do you do with dresses made from condoms that stick together after a certain amount of time? How do you deal with dirt and signs of wear on leather ensembles by Claude Montana, and how do you preserve a fragile paper dress by Dirk Van Saene, which was designed for one-time use but which the museum wants to keep forever?
