Christ as the Good Shepherd

Ask anything

  • Anna asked

Hello! Who are all the figures in this painting? I recognize a few but not all. Thank you!

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Hi Anna, I'm sure you recognized the key figures such as Christ, Mozes with the stone tablets and David with his harp. John the Baptist is pointing at the lamb. It's unclear who the people in the back are. But it has been suggested that the three figures on the left (pars pro toto) represent the 12 apostles. And that the thee on the right as the figures from the old testament. The person on the far right might have been the person who commissioned the painting. Best, Lisa Heinis
