A harrow is an agricultural tool comprising a frame with metal teeth that is dragged through fields to churn up the soil. But what are we to imagine from a flying harrow? Rooskens’ painting leaves us none the wiser with its strange jumble of spiky forms, hooks, claws and network of eyes - half animal, half machine - rendered in deepest black against a colourful background. There is indeed also a flying object, but it does not resemble a harrow.
